About the Register of Deeds office:
The approximately two million recorded land records represent $6.2
billion dollars of real estate within the boundaries of Sheboygan
County. Like most register of deeds, due to low interest rates we
had a record setting year for recording in 2003. A new document
management program was implemented called I-Document XF which allows
real estate documents to be searched over the internet immediately
following receipt. We offer Laredo and Tapestry online services
for searching real estate records 24 hours, seven days a week.

Our office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday

About Sheboygan County: Located
on the shores of Lake Michigan between Milwaukee and Green Bay,
Sheboygan County has a growing population of 114,800 residents.
The county has 3 cities, 10 villages and 15 townships and encompasses
approximately 530 square miles. It is the home of several large
manufacturing centers and agricultural industries. Tourism is growing
rapidly. Blue Harbor Resort and Conference Center with a 40,000
sq ft indoor waterpark. In August of 2004 the PGA golf tournament
was at Whistling Straits golf course. A five-star hotel, many first
class accommodations, award winning golf courses, Road America
racing, and top rated cultural attractions such as performance
theater, art centers, museums, weekend festivals and Lake Michigan
fishing are just some of the attractions. And don't forget, Sheboygan
County is the home of the World Famous Johnsonville Bratwurst.
MISSION STATEMENT: The
mission of Sheboygan County Register of Deeds office is to provide
all services required by law, which includes the following:
- To provide the official county repository
for all real estate records (deeds, land contracts, mortgages
etc.) personal property records (UCC filings) Vital records
(birth, marriage and death records) and military discharge records
for Sheboygan County veterans.
- To provide a public location where documents
may be recorded or filed and to provide archival storage and
convenient access to these public records.
- To collect, disburse, and accurately account
for fees imposed by Wisconsin Statutes and other local and state
regulations.
- To implement statutory changes, system modernization,
program and procedure evaluation and staff development to assure
a high level of timely service for our citizen customers.

SUMMARY of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Register of Deeds office is the primary
source of legal documents, which affect virtually every individual
living in Sheboygan County. This includes personal and real property
ownership and encumbrance records and financing instruments that
are the basis of individual and business credit ratings. This office
executes the final acceptance and filing of new subdivision plats
and certified survey maps, administers the Vital Records Registration
system which includes registration of all births, marriages and
deaths of residents, probate instruments, and business documents
such as corporate filings.
Other duties include registration and preparation of copies of military records,
administration of the Wisconsin Rental Weatherization Program, informal
probate procedures, and registration of US Treasury Federal Tax
Liens. Other statutory responsibilities include the collection of
various taxes and fees, which are divided between Sheboygan County
and the State of Wisconsin.
Reports are given to the following governmental agencies: US Treasury
(Federal Tax Liens) Wisconsin Department of Revenue (transfer fee
tax collection and property valuation for tax equalization), the
Wisconsin Department of Administration (plat review), the Wisconsin
Department of Commerce (Rental Weatherization), Wisconsin Department
of Financial Institutions (UCC filings and Business Corporations),
and the Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services (vital
records).
