MISSION STATEMENT:
Provide, sound technical and educational
assistance in the management, protection, and enhancement of soil
and water resources to land users in Sheboygan County. |
SUMMARY of RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Sheboygan County Board approved the name
change of the Land Conservation Department to Land and Water Conservation
Department. The addition of "water" reflects the water quality protection
initiatives of the Department. The Land and Water Conservation Department
administers the conservation programs and policies of the Sheboygan
County Land Conservation Committee. The Department's responsibilities
include management of soil and water resources, control and prevention
of soil erosion and watershed protection. The Land and Water Conservation
Department carries out these responsibilities by providing technical
and financial assistance to landowners and landusers in rural and
urban areas of Sheboygan County.
The Department also provides technical assistance to town, village
and city governments regarding drainage and soil erosion control.
The Land and Water Conservation Department was organized by County
Board resolution under Chapter 92 of Wisconsin State Statutes. The
Department currently has eight employees totaling 108 years of experience.
Major programs administered by the Land Conservation Department
include State of Wisconsin Watershed Projects (3), Farmland Preservation
Program Conservation Compliance, Wildlife Damage Abatement & Claims
Program, Animal Waste Storage Ordinance Permitting, Subdivision
Plat Reviews and NR-243 Notice of Discharge Permit Assistance. The
Agricultural Office Building Administration is provided through
the Department. |
