Sheboygan County has programs to provide seniors with information and assistance in any area of concern to them. It includes dining site managers who visit seniors in their home and assist with arranging for needed services and follow-along. Some of these services include:
Information and Referral:
Provide information about services, resources and programs for seniors their families, caregivers and friends. Provide assistance with linking to available resource.
Handy-Helpers Chore Service:
Provides names of persons who are willing to do various types of chore services for seniors, e.g., lawn and yard work, snow shoveling, home maintenance, housekeeping, and companion services.
Peer Friends:
Trained volunteer peer friends provide one-on-one assistance to seniors living in the community needing ongoing social contact and informed support.
Telephone Reassurance:
Volunteers phone seniors on a daily basis to ensure their safety and give seniors the opportunity to share their concerns. There is a follow up procedure if the person fails to answer the phone.
Recreation:
The senior dining sites sponsor parties, bus trips, bingo and dartball leagues. The all-county senior picnic is a highlight of the summer.
Senior Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteer activities include providing clerical assistance at the Aging and Disability Resource Center, peer counseling, telephone reassurance, assistance at nutrition sites and home delivered meals.
Alzheimer’s Family & Caregivers Support Program:
Programs are available to provide support to persons with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, including funds for respite care and support groups.
Volunteer Transportation Program:
Volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments both in and out of the county that cannot be provided through the transportation program. The volunteer’s meals and mileage may be eligible for reimbursement. |
